Local foodies and community organizers, Sharon Yeo and Mack Male, are kicking off the food truck season with a gathering of some of  the city’s best and most interesting mobile vendors on Saturday, May 24 on 104th Street, between Jasper and 102 Avenues. What the Truck?! has been a wildly popular event for the past three seasons, and part of the reason that the food truck movement has been so successful in Edmonton.

Some new trucks will be on the scene, including Nhon Hoa, Edmonton’s first banh mi (Vietnamese submarine sandwich) vendor and known for its house-made bread, mayo and cold cuts.  You may also be familiar with the name Big City Sandwich, run by chef Chris Delaney, which has been operating as a pop-up for the last couple of years. Chris is taking over The Next Act’s food truck for this season. (The Next Act folk are concentrating on their new restaurant, MEAT, and are bowing out of the food truck business for a while.) Incredible Edibles is also new to YEG streets, boasting a candied maple bacon poutine.

Returning favourites include Sailin’ On, Smokehouse Barbecue and S’wich. The event sponsors are the City Market, the Downtown Edmonton Community League and Capital City Cleanup.

The event will also feature live music by DJs Thomas Culture and Polyesterday.
